Different Types Of Anti Aging Eye Treatments}

Submitted by: Robert Corter

Even if you are just in your 30s or 40s, you can look much older if you have saggy eye bags, dark circle, and crow’s feet. It is no wonder that many women, and even men, are willing to spend money just to correct the skin around their eyes to make them look younger. To give you an idea, here are just some of the popular anti-aging eye treatments that people turn to nowadays.

Eye Creams

Some eye creams, especially the expensive ones, promise to give the eyes a lift to make them look youthful. The formulations used in these creams have changed through the years and are highly influenced by breakthrough studies that often discover new anti-aging ingredients. Different types of vitamins, natural plant extracts, and antioxidants are the ones most commonly found in them. To make eye creams work better for you, start using them while you are in your 20s to act as a preventive care.

The eyes tend to sunken as people age, which is why dermatologists and cosmetic specialists nowadays suggest that you have fillers injected in your eye area. They are called fillers because they will fill up that sunken space and make your eyes look younger again. It is done by injecting the filler, like Restylane, directly on the spot and the result is immediate. However, this procedure is a bit expensive and lasts for only about three years.

Botulinum toxin or botox is also a popular eye treatment to remove wrinkles and crow’s feet. It works by weakening or paralyzing the muscles, thus giving the skin an instant lift. Just like with anti-aging eye treatments that use fillers, botox is injected on the skin and results can be immediate. However, it only lasts for several months and you will have to repeat the procedure. Furthermore, botox can cause an allergic reaction to some people, so make it a point to have yours done by an accredited and licensed cosmetic surgeon or dermatologist.

Sunblock creams are more like preventive care rather than solution for aging. Most eye creams already contain this ingredient, but if yours does not have it, then it is recommended that you use a separate product that has adequate SPF, preferably not less than 30, to prevent the aging effects of UV rays.

Blepharoplasty is an eye surgery that removes skin or fat from the lids. Others think that it is an eyelift procedure, but it is not. What actually happens is that the surgeon will make an incision on the lid, remove excess fat and then stitch the skin together again. It is an ideal treatment for eye bags.

Aside from these anti-aging eye treatments, there are other tricks that you can do to remove puffiness and reduce the appearance of wrinkles on that delicate area, such as doing regular eye massages, using sunglasses when you go out in the sun, getting prescription glasses (to avoid squinting), getting enough sleep and hydrating your body. Most importantly, avoid rubbing your eye as this often results to sagginess and dark circles. Simple things such as these can delay your need for fillers and surgeries that are quite hard on the pocket.

Australian government under fire over Haneef visa decision

Australian government under fire over Haneef visa decision

Tuesday, July 17, 2007

Australia’s federal government has come under fire by prominent human rights lawyer Julian Burnside, Q.C. for using migration laws to circumvent the release of Mohamed Haneef after he was granted bail in Brisbane Magistrate’s Court.

Haneef is alleged to have provided support to a terrorist organisation, for leaving his mobile phone SIM card with Sabeel Ahmed who allegedly had knowledge of the Glasgow attacks.

Haneef’s lawyers have also attacked the government’s decision saying it will make it more difficult for Haneef to mount a defence should he be held in immigration detention. His lawyers are considering delaying posting his bail surety until his visa issues are resolved. This will allow Haneef to stay in Brisbane near them, his lawyers say. They have also indicated that they will appeal the government’s decision.

Australian immigration minister Kevin Andrews announced yesterday that he had used his powers under the Migration Act to cancel Haneef’s visa as he had failed a character check.

Mr Burnside is sceptical of Mr Andrews’ motives, claiming the government would not have cancelled Haneef’s visa if he had not been bailed. He said Mr Andrew’s moves amount to the government interfering in the judicial process.

“They want to keep him here for trial. They waited to cancel his visa until they saw whether he got bail,” Mr Burnside told Southern Cross Broadcasting.

“If he didn’t get bail then they weren’t going to cancel the visa.”

“This is a misuse of power in bad faith for the explicit purpose of trumping a magistrate’s order that he should be let out on bail.”

“I think it’s disgraceful that Andrews has lent himself to doing it, because as a lawyer, he ought to know better,” said Mr Burnside.

Mr Burnside attacked the government, claiming its decision to cancel Haneef’s visa tramples on some of the key foundations of democracy. He further alleged that the government was acting hypocritically.

“We are supposed to be a democratic society. I thought the war against terrorism was an effort to preserve our democracy. But here we are trashing it left, right and centre in the name of saving it.”

Burnside also questioned the government’s anti-terror laws, saying it was unusual for a person to be charged with giving someone a SIM card twelve months earlier.

Queensland’s Premier Peter Beattie called on the immigration minister to explain the reason for Haneef’s visa being cancelled. Mr Beattie said that the Australian people believed the government was being heavy-handed.

“But clearly the Federal Minister for Immigration has acted in relation to particular information from the federal police.”

“If there’s something they have become aware of since this investigation started that’s not the subject of the charge, then they should share that with the Australian people,” Mr Beattie told the media.

Kenya government fires health worker strikers over failure to ‘report back to work’

Kenya government fires health worker strikers over failure to ‘report back to work’

Saturday, March 10, 2012

The Kenyan government has dismissed 25,000 striking health workers, mostly nurses, citing failure to heed government orders to recommence work and concern for the welfare of hospital patients. Speaking on behalf of the government, Alfred Mutua stated the workers were dismissed “illegally striking” and “[defying] the directive … to report back to work”, which he called “unethical”. The government asks that “[a]ll qualified health professionals, who are unemployed and/or retired have been advised to report to their nearest health facility for interviews and deployment”, Mutua stated.

The workers, who had been on strike for four days, were wishing to have improvements made to their wages, working conditions, and allowances. The strikes have caused a significant number of Kenyan hospitals to cease operations. According to Kenya Health Professionals Society spokesperson Alex Orina, the average monthly wage plus allowances for health workers in Kenya is KSh25,000 (£193, US$302 or €230) approximately. With an increasing number of reports of patients neglected in hospitals emerging, two trade unions met with the Kenyan government yesterday and negotitated a return to work, although a significant proportion of demonstrators defied the agreement, The Guardian reported.

Orina told Reuters the dismissals were “cat-and-mouse games, you cannot sack an entire workforce. It is a ploy to get us to rush back to work, but our strike continues until our demands are met”. Frederick Omiah, a member of the same society, believed the government’s actions would “make an already delicate and volatile situation worse”, expressing concern that demonstrations may continue in the capital Nairobi, amongst other locations. Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union chairperson Dr. Victor Ng’ani described government actions as “reckless”.

Mutua said the health workers were “no longer employees of the government” and had been eliminated from the payroll. While Ng’ani told the BBC of difficulties with finding other workers as skilled and experienced, Mutua reportedly stated that this would not be an issue. “We have over 100,000 to 200,000 health professionals looking for work today,” Mutua commented. “There will be a lag of a day or two … but it is better than letting people die on the floor, at the gate, or suffer in pain”.

Retired U.S. vets sue Donald Rumsfeld for excessive service cutbacks

Retired U.S. vets sue Donald Rumsfeld for excessive service cutbacks

Tuesday, May 31, 2005

One thousand residents of the Defense Department-managed Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington, D.C. filed a class-action lawsuit on May 24, asserting that the cut-backs in medical and dental services imposed by Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld are illegal. The operating budget for the home was reduced from $63 million in 2004 to $58 million for 2005. The residents cite cuts in on-site X-ray, electrocardiogram, physical and dental services, and the closing of the home’s main clinic and an on-site pharmacy.

Chief Financial Officer Steve McManus responded that the changes not only save money but also achieved improved efficiencies. “We’re really trying to improve the benefits to our residents,” he said.

Most of the home’s costs are paid for by a trust fund and monthly fees paid by residents. By law, the Armed Forces Retirement Homes are required to fund, “on-site primary care, medical care and a continuum of long-term care services.”

Disease scare in south Sudan, aid groups return

Disease scare in south Sudan, aid groups return

Monday, January 22, 2007

The governor of the south Sudanese Warab state, Anthony Bol Madut told the Reuters news agency that at least a thousand people in the state have died of Meningitis and another unidentified disease. He said that the unknown disease had symptoms similar to Yellow fever but the patients died quickly. The governor appealed for medical assistance to diagnose and help control the outbreak.

The outbreak comes as hundreds of thousands of refugees return to southern Sudan after a peace deal ended conflict in the areas. The refugees are housed in crowded camps where the risk of infection is high.

Hotspots in south Sudan and Darfur are experiencing a lull in the fighting that has allowed normal life to return to these areas.

Meanwhile, the NGO SOS Children’s Villages Sudan reports that despite the ceasefire among the warring factions in South Sudan and Darfur, people are still worried that conflict may erupt once again. SOS is also concerned about shortages in medicine and clean water in its facilities in these areas.

SOS emergency relief activities have restarted in Abu Shok refugee camp in Al-Fashir, Darfur, with most of the psychologists and social workers returning to work in the psycho-social centres, an SOS release reports. Work with the patients and beneficiaries of the three centres it maintains has started once again, the release adds.

The situation in SOS Children’s Village Malakal is also stable, but cholera is still spreading among the residents of the area, especially children. SOS Children’s Villages Sudan is providing emergency medical assistance in the form of medication for the children in the SOS Children’s Village, as well as those being treated in the local children’s hospital.

According to the SOS release, most international organisations and NGOs have returned to work in both Darfur and Malakal, especially the World Food Programme and other UN agencies. Several NGOs, however, have not resumed activities in the conflict areas. Airplanes are flying into Darfur and Malakal, but flights to Darfur are not as regular as before the conflict and there are no scheduled flights to the area of Malakal. Telephone communications are still unstable, and co-workers from SOS Children’s Villages Sudan in Khartoum are relying on satellite telephones to communicate with Darfur and Malakal.

Mr. Ali Mahdi, director of SOS Children’s Villages Sudan, said that despite the relative quiet in both Darfur and Malakal, people are still worried and tense regarding the situation. Co-workers at the SOS Emergency Relief Centres in Darfur and those in the SOS Children’s Village Malakal are afraid of conflict breaking out again in the areas. Mr. Mahdi also said that the centres in Darfur and the SOS Children’s Village in Malakal are both suffering from shortages in clean water and medication, some of which are being sent from Khartoum.

During a visit to Darfur on 10 January, Mr. Ali Mahdi visited the town of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, where there is a similar refugee problem as that in Al-Fashir. SOS Children’s Villages Sudan is now considering starting an emergency relief programme similar to the one in Abu Shok refugee camp in Al-Fashir.

Top 4 Ways To Boost Your Self Esteem During Recovery}

Submitted by: Amy Rothermel

During recovery, its important to stay positive. Feelings of self-doubt make it more likely that youll have a relapse.

Of course, it can be hard not to have those feelings during recovery. Now that youre seeking the help you need, you may have a lot of friends, family, and co-workers who know the secret of your addiction that youve kept so long. This may make you feel embarrassed, or like people are judging you.

Dont. Never forget that getting the help you needed took a lot of strength. Youre a strong person.

Here are a few other tips you can use to improve your self-esteem during recovery:

There isnt any reason to be ashamed of your situation. No one is judging you for trying to get better.

Think about it like this: if you discovered that someone you knew was struggling with addiction, and now theyre trying to get clean, how would you feel? Would you think they were inferior in some way? No, of course not.

Everyone has their own problems that they have to deal with you would just hope that they can find a way to get better. Thats the way people think of you, so thats the way you should think of yourself as well.

Youve heard it a million times before: you must always be aware of your triggers, recovery is never really over, etc.

Yeah, thats true. But just because recovery is never really over doesnt mean you havent already accomplished a lot. You should be proud of yourself and celebrate your accomplishments. Take your significant other out on a date. Call up some friends and plan a road trip to the beach. Youve made a lot of progress, and you should commemorate that.

Its clear that once you get out of detox/rehab, you should stop hanging out with the crowd that you used to do drugs with.

You should take this logic one step further and also avoid every other negative influence in your life. You have no need for cynicism right now. Only spend your time with people who are positive and support you 100%. Dont feel guilty for cutting anyone off whos not willing to give you that.

Most of addiction recovery is focused on the mental side of things you know, being aware of your thoughts and knowing how to stop yourself from falling into the same destructive cycles, that kind of thing.

But your physical health is also an important part of addiction recovery. If your body feels good, thatll help your mind feel good too.

You need to make an effort to take care of yourself, physically. Drink more water. Eat more vegetables. Go for a run every now and then.

Better yet, make an exercise schedule for yourself. Having your workout routine organized will help you stick with it.
