Tips For Saving Money On Auto Insurance}

Tips for Saving Money on Auto Insurance

by

Jamie Jefferson

Not having auto insurance can bring big financial (and possibly even legal) troubles. But auto insurance can be costly. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways you can save money and still get good coverage.

Saving money starts with knowing your policy. Many times insurance companies try to squeeze in extras that just tack on more money to the bill. The first step is to look over your policy to make sure you are not being charged for anything that you do not want or need.

It also helps to understand insurance in general, as well as your state insurance laws. Most states have minimum coverages. You should know this and make sure your policy includes at least these coverage amounts.

Additionally, your deductible (the amount you must pay out of pocket before your insurance kicks in) greatly affects your cost. Try to go with the highest deductible possible. This will help a lot, but you should also choose a deductible that you could actually afford (just in case).

Once you understand your policy, you can save bundles by shopping around. Many insurance companies will give you quotes for simply filling out forms online. There are also some companies that will allow you to fill out one form and get a variety of quotes from different companies. Keep in mind, though, when you give them your information you will likely start getting contacted, either through email or by phone, so make sure to read the fine print and opt out of any mailing lists.

Above all else, the best way to get a good rate on auto insurance is to have a good driving record and a good credit record. Insurance companies base their rates on both of these factors, so the better they are, the lower price you’ll get.

Insurance companies use many factors when deciding what to charge you. The ones above you can do something about and you can take control. There are some factors such as your age and location that you can not really do anything about, but if you take care of the things you can do something about, you will greatly lower your insurance costs.

Saving money on auto insurance is something everyone wants to do. Nobody likes shelling out a large sum each month for insurance. But when you need it, you will find it was well worth the cost. It is far less expensive to carry insurance then to pay out of pocket after an accident.

Wikinews interviews John Taylor Bowles, National Socialist Order of America candidate for US President

Tuesday, February 19, 2008

While nearly all cover of the 2008 Presidential election has focused on the Democratic and Republican candidates, the race for the White House also includes independents and third party candidates. These parties represent a variety of views that may not be acknowledged by the major party platforms.

As a non-partisan news source, Wikinews has impartially reached out to these candidates, throughout the campaign. The most recent of our interviews is Laurens, South Carolina‘s John Taylor Bowles. Mr. Bowles is running with the endorsement of the National Socialist Order of America, a Minnesota-based Neo-Nazi party created after a recent rift in the National Socialist Movement.

Smoke from massive warehouse fire in Buffalo, New York USA can be seen 40 miles away

Smoke from massive warehouse fire in Buffalo, New York USA can be seen 40 miles away

Monday, May 14, 2007

Buffalo, New York — A massive warehouse complex of at least 5 buildings caught on fire in Buffalo, New York on 111 Tonawanda Street, sending a plume of thick, jet black colored smoke into the air that could be seen as far away as 40 miles.

As of 6:40 a.m., the fire was under control, and firefighters were attempting to stop it from spreading, but could not get to the center of the fire because of severe amounts of debris. Later in the morning, the fire was extinguished.

“The fire is mostly under debris at this point. It’s under control, but it’s under some debris. We really can’t get to it. We’re just going to have to keep on pouring water on it so it doesn’t spread,” said Thomas Ashe, the fire chief for the North Buffalo based fire division who also added that at one point, at least 125 firefighters were on the scene battling the blaze. One suffered minor injures and was able to take himself to the hospital to seek medical attention.

Shortly after 8:00 p.m. as many as 3 explosions rocked the warehouse sending large mushroom clouds of thick black smoke into the air. After the third explosion, heat could be felt more than 100 feet away. The fire started in the front, one story building then quickly spread to three others, but fire fighters managed to stop the flames from spreading onto the 3 story building all the way at the back.

According to a Buffalo Police officer, who wished not to be named, the fire began at about 7:00 p.m. [Eastern time], starting as a one alarm fire. By 8:00 p.m., three fire companies were on the scene battling the blaze. Police also say that a smaller fire was reported in the same building on Saturday night, which caused little damage.

At the start of the fire, traffic was backed up nearly 4 miles on the 198 expressway going west toward the 190 Interstate and police had to shut down the Tonawanda street exit because the road is too close to the fire.

At one point, traffic on the 198 was moving so slow, at least a dozen people were seen getting out of their cars and walking down the expressway to watch the fire. That prompted as many as 10 police cars to be dispatched to the scene to force individuals back into their cars and close off one of the 2 lanes on the westbound side.

One woman, who wished not to be named as she is close to the owner of the warehouse, said the building is filled with “classic cars, forklifts, and money” and that owner “does not have insurance” coverage on the property. The building is not considered abandoned, but firefighters said that it is vacant.

Officials in Fort Erie, Ontario were also swamped with calls to fire departments when the wind blew the smoke over the Niagra River and into Canada.

It is not known what caused the fire, but a car is suspected to have caught on fire and there are reports from police and hazmat crews, that there were also large barrels of diesel fuel being stored in one building. Firefighters say the cause of the blaze is being treated as “suspicious.” The ATF is investigating the fire and will bring dogs in to search the debris.

Despite passage of bailout bill, two US states may need loans

Sunday, October 5, 2008

Despite the passage of a 700 billion USD bill by the United States House of Representatives on Friday and the Senate on Wednesday, two U.S. states may need loans totaling over 14 billion dollars.

California and Massachusetts are seeking at least 7 billion dollars each from the federal government as loans. Officials and lawmakers in both states say that the loans would be temporary.

According to Massachusetts’ state treasurer, Timothy P. Cahill, the state was unable to borrow money last week on a short term loan. He also states that the state can afford to pay its bills and debts for the next few weeks, but not beyond that without a short-term loan from the government. Cahill has asked the federal government for a loan similar to the recent one passed by Congress and the Senate.

“That’s all we would ask them to do: Treat us like the investment banks,” said Cahill to the Associated Press.

Officials in California say they need an emergency loan, or they will run out of money by the end of October. California’s governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger said the state is “not out of the woods” and needs a short term loan from the government.

“California and other states may be unable to obtain the necessary level of financing to maintain government operations and may be forced to turn to the federal treasury for short-term financing,” said Schwarzenegger in a letter to the Treasury Department, which is taking the letter under consideration.

On Friday, the U.S. House of Representative voted to pass a revised bailout bill which included raising the FDIC insurance cap to $250,000, a move designed to please progressives. However, the $110 billion in tax breaks, earmarks and what has been called pork barrel spending is not offset by any increases in revenues and has added opposition to the bill from some Representatives in the House. Earmarks added into the bailout bill included $192 million in tax rebates for the Virgin Islands rum industry, $148 million in tax cuts for the wool industry, $100 million tax cuts to the auto racing industry, and $48 million in Hollywood tax incentives, among others.

Learning The Whole Process Of Adoption In India

Submitted by: Sean Goudeloc

The laws that usually govern the whole legal process of adoption in India include allowing citizens in India who are Buddhists, Sikhs, Hindus and Jains to undergo the formal adoption procedure. This legal process is usually governed by the 1956 Act called Hindu Adoption and Maintenance Act. This Act prevents married couples and single parents to legally adopt over one child who have similar gender. For Jews, Christians, Parsis and Muslims who are Indian nationals, foreign citizens or non-resident Indians desiring to adopt, the 1890 Act called Guardian and Wards Act govern them. This Act only allows adoptive parents to act as the legal guardian until the child reaches the age of eighteen.

If you are a foreign citizen, then be aware that selecting the right agency for adoption governed by an Indian program is crucial in undergoing a smoother process of adoption in India. A wise tip is to look for a reputable and legitimate agency which can provide you with credentials regarding their previous records of child placement and their connections to reputable agencies within the country. Make sure, however, that you do not believe everything that the agency s representative says. You should consider doing your own independent research by getting the addresses of those parents who adopted kids through the agency and talking to them. You have to know exactly if these parents experienced a smooth-sailing or a rough adoption process when dealing with the agency.

YouTube Preview Image

If you want to be able to enjoy a smooth-sailing process of adoption in India, then you have to be really careful in finding an adoption agency. Keep in mind that not all of the accredited Indian agencies can offer you excellent service. If you are not careful, then you will end up dealing with an agency run by people who may badly look after the child you are planning to adopt while you are still waiting for the legal papers to be completed.

It is also important for you to note that you will become eligible to adopt after your chosen agency completes a home evaluation or study. This means that a social worker will be in charge in assessing your suitability for adoption through home visits and interviews. If you gain approval after the home evaluation or study, then you will be able to register with your chosen adoption agency. Just make sure that this agency gains approval from CARA in India which stands for the country s Central Adoption Resource Agency. For non-Indian residents or families who plan to adopt, the requirement is to assemble files of required documentation and send these to CARA.

The process of adoption in India is also governed by the Indian government which requires agencies and prospective parents to strictly follow a protocol for child placement. In most cases, the process starts by requiring CARA to look for an Indian family who is qualified to adopt. If after thirty days no suitable family or adoptive parent is still found, CARA is going to issue a certificate of clearance, qualifying the child for inter-country adoption. A suitable family which meets the specific requirements and submits the required files of documentation gets the chance to bring home the child.

Wikinews interviews Rocky De La Fuente, U.S. Democratic Party presidential candidate

Thursday, March 31, 2016

Businessman Rocky De La Fuente took some time to speak with Wikinews about his campaign for the U.S. Democratic Party’s 2016 presidential nomination.

The 61-year-old De La Fuente resides in San Diego, California, grew up in Tijuana, and owns multiple businesses and properties throughout the world. Since getting his start in the automobile industry, De La Fuente has branched out into the banking and real estate markets. Despite not having held or sought political office previously, he has been involved in politics, serving as the first-ever Hispanic superdelegate to the 1992 Democratic National Convention.

De La Fuente entered the 2016 presidential race last October largely due to his dissatisfaction with Republican front-runner Donald Trump. He argues he is a more accomplished businessman than Trump, and attacks Trump as “a clown,” “a joke,” “dangerous,” and “in the same category as Hitler.” Nevertheless, De La Fuente’s business background begets comparisons with Trump. The Alaskan Midnight Sun blog described him as the Democrats’ “own Donald Trump.”

While receiving only minimal media coverage, he has campaigned actively, and according to the latest Federal Election Commission filing, loaned almost US$ 4 million of his own money to the campaign. He has qualified for 48 primary and caucus ballots, but has not yet obtained any delegates to the 2016 Democratic National Convention. Thus far, according to the count at The Green Papers, De La Fuente has received 35,406 votes, or 0.23% of the total votes cast. He leads among the many lesser-known candidates but trails both Senator Bernie Sanders who has received nearly 6.5 million votes and front-runner Hillary Clinton who has just shy of 9 million votes.

With Wikinews reporter William S. Saturn?, De La Fuente discusses his personal background, his positions on political issues, his current campaign for president, and his political future.

Home Inspection Should You Get One Before You Buy?

By Gary Monfeli

When buying a house it always seems that it is going to cost a lot more than what you think. Sometimes that is true. Not having the home that you are about to buy inspected could mean that your new home may cost you even more than you were anticipating.

We all want to save money and we all understand that we have a mortgage, maintenance costs, and utility costs and that is only a few of your expenses. But the last thing you need is a big, expensive surprise with your new residence. It should not happen but it does.

Everyone understands cutting costs. But cutting out having your house inspected is not a wise move. Spending just a few hundred dollars could save you thousands of dollars. So why not cut your chances of something going wrong? Getting your soon-to-be residence inspected can give you peace of mind.

There are other ways of cutting costs and I am sure if you think about it hard enough you would find a way to come up a few hundred dollars to have this seemingly beautiful home that you want to buy inspected.

What do you think it would cost you as the buyer if you had to put on a new roof the first time it rained? Even if it was just a repair on your roof, it would still cost you more than your inspection.

YouTube Preview Image

The simple truth is that having a home inspection on the house that you are about to purchase is a very smart and wise decision. Find out up front how much this house is really going to cost you before you purchase it. There may be things that you do not want to repair yourself after it is yours and there may be things that need to be repaired that you are not expecting.

There are inspectors that are not qualified to do a good job. But if you ask them a couple basic questions you will find out real fast if they are any good or not. Be sure to hire an ASHI certified inspector, not just someone with a state license. The licensing requirements in Illinois are very easy to obtain whereas ASHI certification requires much more education and competence. Remember when you hire the company they work for you so do not be afraid to ask questions.

The first thing they should be checking out is the exterior, foundation, basement and crawlspace. In addition to the obvious things that could be wrong they should be checking for moisture content in the wood. And they should also be checking for mold, standing water and infiltration.

Next they need to check your roof, attic and insulation. They should be looking for signs of past and present water spots or leakage.

Your electrical system and electrical panels should be checked also. It should be evaluated for proper wiring, circuit breakers and neutral bar. The electrical switches and outlet condition should be checked. The last thing you want is a fire in your new home because of faulty wiring.

The condition of the plumbing and water heater should also be checked. Some people have a tendency to turn the heat up on their water heater. This can be a safety hazard plus it works the water heater harder so it might not be in tip-top shape. The plumbing should be checked throughout the house to make sure there are no leaks in the house.

Have you noticed I have not said that if your inspector can do these repairs let him do them? You should never be asked if you would like him to repair any of the findings he uncovers.

Hopefully this article has helped you out and has explained a little bit more about what you should expect and why you should not hesitate to have your home purchase inspected before you buy it.
